The International Coalition of Sahel has today been launched in Ghana at the Ministry of Foriegn Affairs in Accra.
It was a collaboration of over 25 countries across the globe to discuss matters of security and the general affairs of each nation.
The countries include the United States of America (USA), Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tunisia and other member countries.
Representing these countries were their various Foriegn Affairs Ministers.
Addressing the ministers, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey representing Ghana mentioned that, the security and economic challenges of the Sahel have undermined the economic and general development of the ECOWAS region.
She noted that, terrorists and acts of extreme violence have become transborder threats. “Under the Accra initiative, Ghana is co-operating with a number of West African Countries in the fight against terrorism.”
She then moved to urge the organization to keep in mind that the solution to terrorism and economic inconsistency must be a regional one to prevent the issue at hand from becoming a complex one.
