An expert Financial Analyst and Managing Director for EDC Investments Limited, Paul Kofi Mante, has clarified that a person being financially independent does not mean that he or she should not work anymore.
Speaking on the topic ‘How to become financially independent’ with host, Nana Yaw Odame on eTV Ghana’s Men’s Lounge, he elucidated that financial independence is getting to that stage in life where one can sustain his or her desired lifestyle without salary.
He mentioned that at this stage, the individual does not ‘need’ to work, however, it also does not mean that they do not have to work.
“When you’re financially independent, it does not mean you don’t have to work, but it means you don’t need to work. They are two different things. If you cannot pay the rent, if you cannot buy the fuel, then you need to work.
If you’re financially free, you choose what you want to do. You can spend your time doing things that are fulfilling but may not be financially rewarding”, Paul expunged.
However, for a lot of people, at some point, their reason for working goes beyond putting bread on the table each day or paying school fees, hence even at a financially independent stage, they still keep on with their financially rewarding jobs because they tend to find fulfillment in what they do.
