Communication Minister-designate Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said that claims that pro-NDC radio station Radio gold was targeted for closure are not true.
“I and the NCA have not personally targeted any radio station for its closure. We are just ensuring that the laws are working and unfortunately Radio Gold became a victim.” the Ablekuma West MP told the Appointment Committee during her vetting Monday.
“I had no idea of the political affiliations or ownership of many of these stations. I believe the chairman’s station also suffered from the exercise. It couldn’t have been selective, discriminative or unfair treatment. Unfortunately, in enforcing the law, one has no way of knowing where the chips will fall.
Nobody could have touched any media house if they hadn’t acted in contravention of the law,” she added.
The radio station was taken off the air in May 2019.
Officials of the NCA and police personnel stormed the premises of the stations to shut them down.
The NCA has in a statement said they were shut down because they failed to renew their license
