The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Adansi-Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region, Mr Kobina Tahir Hammond has revealed that there was an outcry in the constituency when they heard he was not going to represent the constituency anymore.
According to him a lot of people were in shock and collapsed upon hearing the rumor which was untrue.
Speaking on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ the political stalwart disclosed that, “People collapsed. Both men and women collapsed and some even wailed when rumors that I was not representing the party anymore broke.”
“One woman who collapsed could only recover fully after she was given the phone for me to assure her I was still representing the constituency. She was later given water and felt alright once again. Go and ask the same secretary and chairman you’ve spoken to.”
On his authority, the outcry wasn’t only in his constituency. “People from other constituencies called to find out if it was true. There is some respect to my name. Some elders of the community even asked me and I had to assure them I had not said anything of that sort.”
He refuted rumors about him not representing the constituency saying it was false and all was spread by the people in the constituency who wanted to forcefully unseat him.
The delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Adansi-Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region will be going to the polls to elect a candidate to contest the parliamentary election for the first time in over 20 years.
The incumbent K.T Hammond will be keenly contested by former President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Mr Samuel Binfoh Dakwa who has immense support from the youth in the Adansi-Asokwa constituency.
