Stanbic Bank Ghana has injected a timely boost into the preparations for the African Games – Accra 2023 by presenting a cheque of GHS200,000 to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), in support of the government’s endeavors.
During the ceremony held yesterday in Accra, Mr. Kwamina Asomaning, CEO of Stanbic Bank Ghana, expressed the institution’s enthusiasm for collaborating with the LOC to enhance Ghana’s presence on the global sporting stage. Asomaning emphasized the synergy between sports values and the bank’s vision, particularly in driving socio-economic development.
Highlighting Ghana’s commitment to promoting sports across the continent, Asomaning acknowledged the need for additional support to ensure the success of the Games, complementing governmental and stakeholder investments. He also underscored Stanbic’s ongoing commitment to sports development, citing investments in various disciplines such as swimming, tennis, and volleyball.
Asomaning noted the opportune timing of their support for the African Games, highlighting its role in broadening the bank’s focus and contributing to Ghana’s resurgence in sports dominance.
In acknowledgment of Stanbic Bank’s timely intervention, the Minister of Youth and Sports conveyed gratitude on behalf of the LOC and the government, particularly recognizing the assistance in facilitating the payment of per diems for Ghanaian athletes. With over 500 athletes from Team Ghana to support, the contribution significantly bolsters their preparations for the competition.
The Minister urged other corporate entities to follow Stanbic Bank’s lead in supporting the African Games, emphasizing the collective responsibility in ensuring the event’s success amidst the involvement of thousands of guests, officials, and volunteers.
Dr. Kweku Ofosu Asare, Executive Chairperson of the LOC, expressed gratitude for Stanbic’s assistance, acknowledging the considerable expenditure incurred by the country in preparing for the Games.
