Betty Twumasi Ankrah, a nurse and the founder of ‘Life from 30’ hypertension organization, has told her story of how she became an Uber driver just to educate people on high blood pressure.
This revelation was made on eTV Ghana’s African Women’s voices, an hour long women empowerment programme which airs live every Tuesday at 4pm, with host, Eunice Tornyi.
“I heard a lot about Uber and I needed money to organize a national screening exercise for hypertension. I wanted to organize several screenings in different regions but I didn’t have the money so I decided to join Uber”, Betty narrated.
According to her, she had heard that Uber had become a very lucrative business, so she decided to join so she could make enough money to help effect her screening exercise plans.
“When I got into Uber, I realized that the money wasn’t so much but I could actually use Uber to create the awareness that I wanted so I decided that any passenger I pick, I start educating them on hypertension”, she confessed.
Betty revealed that she went to the extent of keeping her BP machine in the car so that she could test her passengers after a trip-long education session.
The nurse commented that being an Uber driver was exciting for her, as well as for most of the passengers she got to educate and test in her Uber car, as most of them gave her five-star ratings at the end of their trip.
