Voting in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries at the Ningo Prampram constituency has been halted temporarily due to chaos that erupted at the polling station.
This comes after misunderstandings over an apparent court order between the camps of the two candidates in the parliamentary race, incumbent Sam Nartey George and his challenger, Michael Kwetey Tetteh.
A high court is said to have instructed the party to permit 16 delegates from two branches to vote in the primary.
The names of the delegates had previously been left off the roaster for the primaries, but now the Constituency is fighting over whether or not they were recently added.
Delegates are outraged by the situation, and the two sides are currently meeting to try to find a solution.
Voting has been postponed due to the turmoil, according to latest reports from the district. The voting area has been roped off and is under strong security.
Two persons were earlier detained for attempting to obstruct voting at the New Ningo D/A Basic School B polling location in the Ningo-Prampram constituency.
The police swiftly intervened and arrested the two individuals to prevent the situation from escalating.
The individuals were attempting to convince delegates who had arrived at the polling station to vote for their preferred candidate.
Michael Kwetey Tetteh, who lost the 2019 parliamentary primary by just seven votes, is putting up a strong fight against Sam George.
