President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration in Government has proven that they are “good protectors of the public purse”.
Explaining why this is so, the President explained that under his leadership, the Government has been able to find “the resource to cushion the impact of the pandemic because we are good managers of the economy and we are good protectors of the public purse”.
In his State of the Nation Address to the country, he stated that his Government has been able to live up to the promise of protecting lives and livelihoods amid the pandemic “even if it was to the temporary detriment of our much sought-after fiscal stability”.
Detailing some of the Government’s intervention amid the pandemic, President Akufo-Addo said: “The formulation and implementation of the COVID-19 preparedness and response plan, tracing, testing, treatment, waiver of personal income tax and provision of an additional 50 percent basic salary allowance to healthcare workers, expanding the capacities of laboratories to increase COVID-19 testing, the establishment of isolation centres in all regions and districts, fumigation of markets and schools, provision of food packages and meals for residents in areas affected by the partial lockdown, provision of free water for all households, provision of free electricity… are among the several measures put in place by the Government to cushion Ghanaians from the impact of the pandemic. Support has also been forthcoming from Bank Of Ghana under its brilliant leadership”.
President Akufo-Addo delivered his first State of the Nation Address of his second term in office today. The President briefed the nation on the present state of the various sectors of the economy following his first term in office.
