Jenny Laryea and Jennifer Laryea, twin sisters and founders of Twinnie Krafts Conglomerate, have given a talk on whether it is advisable to start a business with a sibling.
Interviewed on eTV Ghana’s African Women’s Voices show on the ‘Celebrating and inspiring women achievers series (Women in social work edition)’, Jenny advised that the first question to ask oneself is whether there is a common interest between you and your sibling.
“There should be a common interest, there should be a common goal and there should be a common ideology because if you don’t have the interest, it won’t work. If you think about clothing and I think about head pieces, then it means we can’t be in the same business together”, she said.
The second thing according to her, is to make an analysis of how loyal you both are to each other and how discipline or transparent you both are to each other. “The fact that you are family means you have to give each other that loyalty, you have to be true to each other, there has to be diligence in whatever you’re doing and you have to give each other respect”, she added.
Jenny noted that even though she may know the password to her sister’s phone and mobile money, she cannot just go into her phone and transfer funds to herself without notifying her sister because that would be disrespectful and disloyal.
“If from the word go, you don’t have the mutual interest, you don’t have that respect for each other and that loyalty, then you cannot have a business together”, the businesswoman further concluded.
