Fascinators and headpieces in general, have become the new fashion trend and unlike in the past when fascinators were only worn to weddings, there is now something for every occasion.
However, there are some tips or secrets about these headpieces that most people do not know about. CEO and co-founder of Twinnie’s Krafts Conglomerate, Jennifer Laryea, has shared some things to know about head pieces.
Interviewed on eTV Ghana by the host of the African Women’s Voices Show, Mrs. Eunice Tornyi, on the ‘Women in social work edition’ of the show, she noted that headpieces come in different types.
“We have hats, we have hatinators, we have fascinators, we have tiaras, we have bandeaus, we have headbands and several other types of headpieces”.
Jennifer added that different materials are used for every type of headpiece, and some materials used are for kente, banana straw, among others. “Mostly, fascinators sit on a comb, an Alice band or an elastic band”, she indicated.
Detailing on the right way to wear fascinators, she hinted that, “The first thing the wearer has to do is to turn the headpiece upside down and find out where the joining is. Where the joining is should always go to your back so under no circumstance should the joining of your fascinator be on the front”.
Moving on, she educated on the proper way to wear headpieces that are made with Alice bands, saying, “Sometimes, you realize that when you turn the Alice band, there is a shorter side and a longer side. Mostly, the shorter side is where the design sits so you tilt it more to the shorter side and when you wear your headpiece, make sure that the edges of the Alice band are behind your ears”.
