Ghanaian hip-life artiste, Yaa Pono, also known as Ponobiom has revealed that a lot of DJs have advised him to change his name.
Speaking to DJ Advicer on Happy FM’s Ayekoo After Drive, he explained that back in the days, most DJs and radio show hosts were uncomfortable mentioning his name on air and advised him to change it just because they do not know its real meaning and mistake it to mean something else.
The ‘Obia wor ne master’ hit maker expatiated that his nickname ‘Pono’ is not a short form of pornography as people misunderstand, but is an abbreviation for ‘Prince Of No origin’. Combined with ‘Yaa’, which in our Akan local language, is used to attribute God and in some instances, lesser gods, his name Yaa Pono simply means the ‘Greatest Prince Of No Origin’.
‘’Yaa Pono sounds funny, my raps sound funny too, and that is how I carry myself. Regardless of all the complaints from DJs, my name is one of the biggest names out there today’’, he bragged.
