The National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer George Opare Addo (Pablo) has described the ruling government as dishonest and using deception to rule the country.
He described the government’s claim of creating jobs through the various initiatives it has set up as false with the government not even having the capacity to employ the 100,000 Nation Builders Corp (NABCO) recruits is says it has.
In an interview on Happy 98.9 FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ with Afrifa-Mensah, Pablo said, “the budget allocation for NABCO is not enough to pay the 100,000 people the government says it has recruited. When you multiply their monthly allowances of GH₵700 cedis per person by the total of 100,000 recruits, the budget allocation is not up to GH₵ 70,000,000.”
The politician added that even the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) which is meant to oversee the development, coordination, supervision and facilitation of employment for the youth has not yielded any results. “After their training are they even supported? They are just left to move around and that is it.”
He challenged the government to prove and show Ghanaians exactly where and how all these recruits are faring after their training and recruitment.
How can a government which has caused 300,000 people to lose their jobs even work to provide jobs for 100,000 people? He queried.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in October 2018 commissioned the passing out ceremony for 100,000 beneficiaries under NABCO modules in October 2018 and the following month, about 44,000 applicants had been placed to start work.
But reports indicate that there have been delays in the payment of the GHc700 stipend paid to those working in the program.
Observers have also retorted that NABCO is not a sustainable way of tackling unemployment despite the government’s assertions.
