Beatrice Kusiwa Appau, a Milliner, has disclosed that well-made headpieces can be revamped just like wigs.
Speaking to Eunice Tornyi on e.tv Ghana’s African Women’s Voices show, she said, “Headpieces can also be revamped as well just like wigs only if the miliner who made the piece went with the techique of stitching. If it was switched and done well with a needle and thread, it can be cut and redone the same way seamstresses and fashion designers redesign clothes.”
She emphasized that all the miliner will have to do is to cut, resew, reiron and do everything again.
“The only challenge will be if it wasn’t well done with the right technique. Then, the miliner probably used glue to make it. That way it will be hard to get it back to how it was before,” she said.
She noted that it is advisable for anyone who wants to get a revampable headpiece to look at how it was put together before getting it.
“If it’s the stictched type, then there’s a chance that it can be revamped,” she added.
Event Planner and Miliner, Rita Odame who was also on the show agreed to this, and added that the fabric used for the headpiece should also be considered.
“If it’s cinamin, it can be pulled apart, ironed and sewed again but if it’s leather, it’s going to be hard to do anything to it. So, it is also very important to keep your head pieces clean in a cool dry place so you don’t have to revamp or redesign it,” she addressed.
