Ghana’s most extensive television station, e.tv Ghana is set to host the maiden edition of the eSports Summit as part of its contribution to the growth and development of Ghana’s sports fraternity.
The 2022 edition of the eSports Summit, set to take place on Wednesday, August 31, at the Accra City Hotel will focus on the topic, “Financing the National Team; Structure and Sustainability”.
The thought-provoking and leadership discussion will witness renowned and distinguished personalities with expert knowledge on the topic, share their expertise and suggest staunched solutions to avoid another “Brazil 2014” fiasco ahead of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
During the launch, e.tv Ghana Head of Sports, Ohene Brenya-Bampoe, reiterated the essence of establishing a sustainable policy and structure for issuing bonuses for the Ghana National Teams.
“We are glad to put together something new and this is ultimately an important discussion to the sports world in the country. Over the years, we have had debates over bonuses of the Black Stars and what seems to be a disgrace to the country was what happened in Brazil. So for us, this summit is all about addressing the root issue and to also help Ghanaians establish an understanding on how these things work. We’ll be going to Qatar in a few months and we hope we don’t repeat the Brazil fiasco. For us that is our purpose and we’re glad to bring together people well versed on the topic to share their knowledge and propose solutions,” he said.
On his part, Programmes Manager of e.tv Ghana, Cosby Bikpe highlighted the importance of introducing the eSports Summit.
He said, “For us as a station, we see this maiden event as our responsibility to Ghanaians. We have proven that although most of our activities and programmes represent the world of entertainment, we are also conscious of introducing education through entertainment. We are proud as a team to establish the basis and lead the discussion on the issues of bonuses and the alarming controversies so that at the end, the best practices can be developed. We want to contribute to the development of Ghana’s sports world and this could be our little way of doing that.”
The event will be graced by Mustapha Ussif, the Minister for Youth and Sports, and Kurt Okraku Mantey, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Panelists include the former Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, former GFA Vice, Fred Pappoe; Member of the Commission of enquiry that probed the Brazil 2014 saga, Lawyer Foh Amoaning and the former Marketing Manager for Hearts of Oak, Neil Armstrong.
