Security Analysts amongst others have described Ghana to be in a state of insecurity after the recent James Town bullion van attack.
According to them, the country’s internal security infrastructure is not up to standard as the police has not been able to deal with the increasing crime rates.
Addressing this claim, Andy Kankam, Editor of the Informer Newspaper says “Ghana is not in a state of insecurity and I hope the police will work hard to stem the tide of violence and crime.”
Andy Kankam noted that some of these security analysts speaking on the current state of Ghana’s security really have no idea of what they are talking about “and we should not allow these people to run down the Ghana Police Service, we will not allow it, especially from these so called security analysts.”
He admitted that Ghana is currently facing a “situation” when it comes to its internal security but argues the focus should be on resolving it “and not in running down the police”.
The Editor who is against so called security experts creating fear and panic in the public space advised the media to be careful of resource persons they interview. “We need to speak to the right experts and not those who cause fear and panic.”
He made this known on the Happy Morning Show hosted by Samuel Eshun.
Background
Two bullion vans were attacked by robbers at two different places this week. One occurred at Jamestown in Accra, while the other one took place near Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region.
Two persons –a police officer and a trader—lost their lives in the robbery attack at Jamestown while an unspecified amount of money was stolen by the robbers.
With the incident that occurred in the Central Region, the bullion van crew managed to escape the attack unhurt.
There have been other cases of robberies and killings reported in other parts of the country.
Some persons have suggested that the bullion van attacks and other daylight robberies recorded in the country in recent times show a failure on the part of the country’s security agencies.
