The Ghana Tourism Authority has ordered that all beaches be closed following the directive by the President to suspend all public gatherings and observe social distancing amid the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The President, in his statement on the updates on the Coronavirus pandemic in the country, directed that all public gatherings be suspended whilst funeral gatherings be limited to twenty-five (25) people.
In the light of this direction, the Ghana Tourism Authority in a statement dated 23rd March,2020 has ordered that the beaches be closed until further notice.
The order which takes effect from Tuesday, 24th March, 2020, will be enforced with the support of the National Security and the Ghana Police Service as they embark on patrols of the beaches to ensure compliance.
Thus, “the general public and tourist business operators are urged to be mindful of the precautionary measures announced by the President of the Republic to fight the COVID-19 Pandemic”.
The novel coronavirus cases recorded in Ghana have risen to 24.
“Twenty-three of the confirmed cases are receiving treatment in isolation and one of the cases who had an underlying chronic pulmonary condition prior to having COVID-19 died [on Saturday, March 21],” the Ghana Health Service said in an update.
