Ghanaian hiphop rapper, Pappy Kojo, has asserted that the culture of rap in present day Accra is dead without his involvement.
In an interview on a YouTube digital segment, Face2Face Africa, the Italian-based rapper hinted that his involvement with Accra-based rappers brings the rap culture in Accra to life, but it loses its touch in his absence. “The rap culture in Accra is dead; it’s dead here; it’s only alive when I come here; when I leave, it’s dead.” He reiterated and further mentioned that the rap culture in Takoradi, his hometown, still exists.
Ghana’s ‘Fante Vandam’ in the interview posited that even Ghana’s rap landlord, Sarkodie, does not keep the rap culture in Accra alive because he is from Tema.
“When it comes to Takoradi, the culture is still there; people still try to rap, to impress with bars; it’s still there.” He highlighted this, tagging the conscious effort of rappers to impress with their rendition as the meaning of rap culture.
