Former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development in the erstwhile Mahama administration, Akwasi Oppong Fosu, has labelled the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a classical case of failed government in leadership and institutions.
According to him, the Akufo-Addo administration has failed to recognize and observe the crucial pillars of government with both state and non-state actors. Hence, its governance leading to the meltdown of institutions.
In an interview with Samuel Eshun on e.tv Ghana’s socio-political talk show, “Fact Sheet”, the former Member of Parliament for the Amenfi East constituency, described good governance as the ability to manage the interest of both state and non-state actors to achieve the well-being of Ghanaians.
However, for him, that has barely been manifested in the current administration.
“I see a classic case of failure in leadership, governance and a meltdown of institutions Ghana,” he told Samuel Eshun.
“Governance is about the management of interactions between state and non-state actors. The state is about government and state institutions. Non-state has to do with civil society institutions, traditional authorities, private sector, think-tanks and the generality of some representations of the citizens. How the interests of all these actors is managed to achieve the well-being of the citizenry is what government is about but I do not see this happening in the current administration,” he explained.
Meanwhile, in the latest development on calls for the Finance Minister’s resignation, the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak has warned that members of the Majority Caucus who previously rebelled against the Finance Minister might suffer serious repercussions should the vote of censure fail.
He claimed that should the motion of censure fail, 80 members of the Majority Caucus would be at the whim of their party leaders, which would not be advantageous to them.
He however stated that should the vote of censure succeed the 80 members, particularly the leaders and outspoken members within that group would be considered forces to be reckoned with within the party and that would protect them from any reproach from their party leadership.
