Certified psychologist and counselor, Prince Offei, has emphatically stated that to some extent stress is good for humans.
Defining what stress is, he mentioned that “it is the response of the brain and the body to tension and pressure.
Whenever a person comes under some sort of tension and pressure, the brain and body reacts or responds to that and that reaction is what leads to stress,” he stated.
Speaking to Nana Yaw Odame on e.tv Ghana’s ‘Men’s Lounge Show’, he said, “Common causes of stress from a clinical psychological point of view are 4 major. The first is frustration, the second conflict, the third change and the last pressure.”
He noted that these causes have ways of affecting the individual and in the end, leading to stress and they are known as the negative types of stress.
According to the counselor, everyone goes through some form of stress including children.
“Stress by itself is not all negative because we have negative and positive stress,” he noted.
Speaking from the angle of the positive side of stress, he highlighted that it called the eustress and it is usually the type of stress that motivates one to achieve in life.
“This type of stress, dares you to do things that you wouldn’t have done ordinarily, and it is that type of stress that is positive. It is required for everyone to become whom they need to become and to achieve things they need to achieve,” he added.
He advised people to take note and know the differences between the various types of stress.
