Security Expert, Adib Sani, has expressed disappointment in the Ghana Police Service for creating “a false sense of security” in the country when the reality on the ground denotes otherwise.
Adib Sani was particularly not pleased with the Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service ACP Kwasi Ofori as he states that the ACP continues to assure the citizenry of safety in the country when he should rather be cautioning people to be safe out there.
“Unfortunately, the Head of public affairs, ACP kwasi Ofori is not helping matters. His seeming and shocking denial of what you and I have eyes to see is what I can’t believe. Just google the past months and see the number of robberies that have been recorded and the Rambo style in which they have been conducted and for him to come out and say that robberies are not on the rise and that it is media sensationalism, is what really shocked me,” he told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show.
The security expert warned that creating a false sense of security will cause people “to let down their guards and become more vulnerable”.
Juxtaposing the situation in Ghana to the USA, he made known that the USA always publishes a threat assessment report for the public to take practical measures for their own safety. “But in Ghana, because of the politics, we tend to cover up the real facts and make politicians look good in the eyes of the public,” he added.
In the beginning of September this year, Head of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori said the service is in control of the recent criminal activities that seek to endanger the lives of Ghanaians.
According to him, the police acknowledge the surge in such cases as it has received reports of crimes particularly in the Bono East and Eastern Regions as well as the northern corridor.
The country has recorded more daylight robberies in the past weeks. Most of the victims of these robberies had gone to withdrawn monies from the bank when the incident occurred.
Some security experts have called for the interrogation of bank staffs over these bank-related robberies.
