Former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa electorate, Paul Collins Appiah-Ofori has pleaded with President Akufo-Addo to recall the Special Prosecutor back to office.
He appealed to the President to renegotiate with Martin Amidu who resigned yesterday on claims interference from the presidency and other instruction in his line of work. “I plead with President Akufo-Addo to negotiate with Martin Amidu and get him back to the Special Prosecutor’s office because he can and will execute his work with effectiveness and efficiency”.
After working in the office of the Special Prosecutor for three years, Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu has resigned, citing what he described as “political interference in the independence of his office” as the main reason for his decision to resign.
In a letter dated yesterday and addressed to President Akufo-Addo, Martin Amidu said his position had become ‘untenable’, especially with regard to the corruption risk assessment he conducted on the Gold Royalties Monetization Transaction arrangement, popularly referred to as the Agyapa Deal.
He alleged that the reaction he got from the Presidency on the corruption risk assessment was the final push that led to his resignation.
Now an anti-corruption campaigner, P.C Appiah-Ofori in an interview with Samuel Eshun, host of the Happy Morning Show said, “President Akufo-Addo should jaw-jaw with Martin Amidu and get him back to do his work again and do it right”.
According to him, with Martin Amidu in office, no one would attempt to steal from the country and keep those monies in foreign banks.
He believes every Ghanaian has a role to play in ending corruption and appealed to the Ghanaian populace to appeal to Martin Amidu to “withdraw his resignation and get back to work”.
