A Metro Mass Transit bus driver by name Andrews Frimpong has escaped a robbery attack together with his passengers on Saturday night.
The driver who drove through a barricade mounted by the robbers on the Akyem-Asafo Amaase road in the Eastern Region where his fan belt got torn but managed to save some passengers onboard the bus before the gun-wielding armed robbers broke in.
Speaking to the bus conductor, Pascal Letsu, he praised his driver for his bravery and explained that the armed robbers had placed firewood and barrels on the road to stop the bus from moving but the driver managed to drive through and led all passengers to a nearby bus.
He added that two of the passengers, a male, and female who failed to get out of the bus were robbed and that a formal complaint has been lodged at the Asafo and Tafo Police station.
Chief of Akyem Asafo, Barima Dakwanin II lamented that the incessant robbery incidents in the area and noted that police in the area are doing their best but their work is hindered due to lack of resources.
Barima Dakwanin II appealed to the government to resource the police to provide adequate security for passengers and people in the area.
