Referees Association of Ghana treasurer, retired referee Thomas Nunoo, has lashed out at his chairman ,retired referee Joe Debrah, for threatening to sack any referee who dares to boycott the on-going Normalization committee special competition over unpaid allowances after the first round of matches.
The RAG chairman earlier cautioned referees who planned on boycotting the Normalization Committee’s special competition due to unpaid allowances for the games they had officiated since the commencement of the competition.
According to the the chairman, no referee is bigger than the association and any referee who boycotts a game should count him or herself out of the association.
Speaking to Ohene Bampoe-Brenya on Happy FM’s ‘Anopa Bosuo Sports’ ,the RAG treasurer, retired ref Thomas Nunoo, expressed his disappointment over his chairman’s comments.
“The comments by Ref. Joe Debrah is not only disrespectful but also irresponsible and he must bow down his head in shame. He is the only person who is dealing with Dr. Kofi Amoah , so he must tell him to pay the referees. Ref. Joe Debrah doesn’t allow anyone to talk to the Normalization Committee except him,”-he furiously stated.
“Instead of him to be calm and beg the referees, he is rather threatening them. He should go and bring his wife and kids to come and officiate matches. Ref. Joe Debrah should just shut up as a chairman if he has nothing responsible to say.”
“Ref. Joe Debrah is an apology to all chairmen . I am very disappointed in him for his reckless comment. Threatening referees that should they boycott the competition then they should count themselves out of refereeing? He must come out and apologize,” he added.
The referees ended first round of the NC special competition but have not received payment. Some female referees who officiated the just ended women’s special competition are yet to take even a penny whilst others who officiated the quarter finals, semifinals and finals are also waiting for their allowances.
According to the GFA Normalization Committee, Ghana Premier League referees will be paid GHC 850 for each game whiles the National Women’s League referees officials receives GHC 500.
