Ghanaian rapper and songwriter, Eno Barony has revealed how she has managed to make it as a female rapper in the male-dominated field.
She believes her success chalked so far is hinged on the fact that she did not allow the male rappers in the industry to frighten her.
According to her, she has always known herself as a good rapper and this was reinforced by people around her. Finding herself in an industry where male rappers are dominant, she decided to find a way to break that barrier.
In an interview with NYDJ on Y 102.5 FM’s Ryse N Shyne Show she said, “I believe that women who are actually in a male-dominated area have to stand their grounds and stand for what they know how to do best”.
She added, “The men will always want you to feel intimidated. A lot of males will always want you to kiss a**. They will always want you feeling like because you’re a woman there are certain things you cannot do. If you also put that in your head, you’ll keep being there and everything will be tough for you”.
Eno acknowledges that, although she is a woman, she can equally do what the men are doing and told herself, “I will stand my grounds and I will not let them put me in a box because I am a woman”.
She believes whatever men can achieve, she can also achieve and decided to work hard to make that dream a reality. “I have set out to achieve every goal every man has set out to achieve, just to prove that I can also do it”.
Eno went on to say that although it took a while for her to achieve her aim, the wait was worth it and now believes she has got the recognition she deserves.
