Head coach of Ghana Division One League side Heart of Lions, Salifu Fatawu, says he is delighted the Kpando-based side has secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League for next season.
After being relegated from the elite league in 2015, Hearts of Lions has been vying for a return to the top flight ever since.
Their promotion was finally achieved by clinching the Division One League Zone 3 championship with a comfortable lead of 16 points over second-placed Vision FC, who lost their game to Attram de Visser, and Samper FI, who lost to Na God FC.
“Though Hearts of Lions have a very young team, the current crop of players are very tough mentally. What we had to do is set a target of securing promotion to play top-flight football. The club is excited about achieving this and we are looking forward to it,” coach Salifu Fatawu said on Happy FM.
Speaking on the remaining fixtures to be played despite having already secured promotion, Coach Fatawu stated that his side is focused on winning their remaining matches.
“We won’t be complacent because of the promotion. The season isn’t over and there are still some matches to be played so our focus now is winning those matches. The supporters contributed to this and we are grateful to them”.
Hearts of Lions humbled Golden Kicks FC 4-2 on Monday despite having emerged as runaway champions in Zone III after Sunday’s round of matches with five matches to spare.
