The Secretary of the Women’s Commission of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Valentina Badu Acheampong has says those who stake bet must fall within an approved age range before they are allowed to engage in it.
The online sports gambling activity which is touted by majority of Ghana’s youth as a laudable means of profit, was tagged as rather a waste of time by the entrepreneur. “I have seen people who win money and use that same money to bet again but this time around they lose everything; there is no profit; I feel it’s a waste of time and resources; it’s not the right investments.” she highlighted.
Valentina noted in an interview on e.TV Ghana’s Campus Dialogue with host, Sefah-Danquah that many students tend to use money given by their parents for upkeep for these betting activities and lose that money which leaves them stranded with nothing to survive on during their period in school and also advised all students who still depend on guardians for thier upkeep to desist from betting.
She was reacting to concerns about the daily rise in betting activities on University Campuses which many see as a Threat to Academic Work or an Economic Gateway for Students.’
