Beatrice Kusiwa Appau, a Milliner, has emphatically stated that hairstyles play a key role in the type of headpiece one must wear.
Talking about some factors to consider when choosing a headpiece, she mentioned that the hairstyle is key as not all headpieces can fit into every hairstyle.
Speaking to Eunice Tornyi on e.tv Ghana’s African Women’s Voices show, she said, “Your hair style matters a lot so often times you have to let the milliner know your hairstyle before she makes the headpiece for you. The particular hairstyle that is most likely to fit all headpieces will be pony, especially if the hair is leaning back or at the lower back not the ones high up.”
She emphasized that ponytails do well with a hat, hatinator, fascinator or any type of headpiece once there is a band under it.
“The only one that might not fit is a big hat with a crown. Those ones are best used on weave ons and long hair but the ponytail goes with most of the fascinators,” she stated.
She noted that it is not advisable to wear a headpiece with a weave on because it might slip off if care is not taken.
“So, if you see a piece on someone with a ponytail, know that you can’t have the same piece on with a weave on. You might probably want the same thing but because of what you are wearing, it will not look same,” she highlighted.
Apart from the hairstyle Beatrice also added that your face and height are key when choosing a headpiece.
