Valentina Esi Afful, a health worker at the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana, has advised women to keep their fingers out of the vaginas as they have no business inserting them in there.
Interviewed on eTV Ghana’s Girl Vibes with Mercy Bee the Ekumfi Princess, she stated that a lot of women have the habit of douching, that is, inserting their fingers into their vaginas to cleanse the place. Valentina, speaking from her knowledge and expertise, advised against this.
“You have no business putting your finger inside your vagina because the place is self-cleansing. If there’s anything that needs to be cleared from the place, your body will provide the cleansing and it will come out”, she said.
Speaking on the use of feminine wash products, Valentina opined that it is not advisable because as stated earlier, the vagina has a self-cleansing property. According to her, some of these feminine wash products have acidity contents that throw off the pH balance of the vagina.
She further educated that, “If the pH balance is messed with, that is wrong so you can end up having infections, burning sensations and other uncomfortable occurrences in the vagina”. In conclusion, the health expert advised women to avoid using vaginal washes and stick to the recommended way of washing the vagina by rinsing with water only.
