Financial planner and literacy advocate at Axis Pension, Mimi Acquah, has clarified that year resolutions are not necessarily supposed to be made at the beginning of a new year.
Sharing her knowledge with viewers of eTV Ghana’s Girl Vibes via phone call on the show, she told host, Mercy Bee the Ekumfi Princess that it has become a ritual that in the beginning of every new year, people set goals on what they want to do in the year.
“If you’re just setting goals because it’s a new year and you know very well that you’re not going to stick to it, that it’s going to be something you do in January and by February you’ve forgotten about it, then don’t waste your time.
Setting goals is something you can do at any time in your life. You don’t need to wait for a new year. At any point in your life, you can sit down, re-assess and determine that you want to set this goal but before you set a goal, it’s always important to know what your vision or purpose is”, she said.
According to Mimi, the only reason why resolutions are mostly made at the beginning of a new year is because it is important to assess the past year, goals that were set, whether or not they were reached and a better tactic or plan to reaching them in the new year if they were not met, as well as to set further goals for the year.
Nevertheless, she noted that resolutions or goals can be reviewed at any time of the year, be it monthly, quarterly, weekly, or as and when one sees necessary, depending on goals set and how the plan towards it could be revised.
