Ghanaian actress, writer and producer, Lydia Forson has advised the youth to be willing to start from somewhere to attain what they want because there is no automatic way to becoming an actor or actress.
On the special edition of the Late Nite Celebrity Show hosted by Sister Deborah, former host of the show, now guest presenter, Lydia stated that most of the youth these days say that they want to be actors and actresses but they should be willing to start from somewhere and avail themselves even when they are called to be extras. ‘
“Unfortunately, our industry does not have all the right structures so you can’t say go here or go there but I always tell the young people, avail yourself to be an extra. Everybody wants to be lead but they don’t understand that you have to start from somewhere. I say, go to as many production houses as you can go to, fill the forms, and if they want you as an extra, show up because I know actors who are popular now that used to be extras.’’
She also mentioned that the young aspiring actors should stop messaging the huge actors telling them they want to become actors or actresses. ‘’If you want to be something, you pay attention to what is happening around. How many auditions have you been to? On social media, are you researching, finding out what auditions are out there, where production houses are?’’, she questioned.
She confessed that if anyone sends her a text about looking for a movie role, she wouldn’t be able to help because she is looking for roles too. ‘’ Everybody is hustling on their own so if you care enough about what you want to do, you go through the right process and you will get there’’, she advised.
