The Ghana Blind Union (GBU) has appealed to political parties to support them with one thousand white canes each.
In an interview with Paul Anomah Kordieh on Live Chat with Paul aired on e.TV Ghana, the Executive Director of the Ghana Blind Union, Mr. Peter Obeng Asamoah said, “I will crave your indulgence to allow me appeal to the political parties to support the Ghana Blind Union. This will allow more blind people to be included in the development of the country”.
According to him, the use of the white cane helps the blind person to exhibit some level of independence that reduces the dependency syndrome.
It also enhances the ability of the blind to be included in society in terms of decision-making and implementation.
The Ghana Blind Union celebrated the World White Cane Day on 7th November, which is however commemorated on 15th October on a global scale. The white cane is a mobility tool that allows blind people navigate their way.
