Blakk Rasta has disclosed that he prefers being a solo artiste than featuring other artiste because of his unfortunate experiences with featuring artistes such as Wutah and Jah Amber.
In an interview with Foster Romanus on the Late Nite Celebrity Show, he explained: “I tried two collaborations in the past and they didn’t come out good. The first one was with Wutah. We recorded in the studio and it came out very well. However, Wutah claimed the song was solely theirs and I stole the song. Meanwhile it was a collaboration. After some time there was another brother by name Jah Amber who came to me for a feature. When the song came out, this brother also went out saying, it was his song that was stolen. So these things just put me off”.
Besides these unsuccessful collaborations, Blakk Rasta revealed that he grew up with the notion that artistes who featured other artistes were weak. “I have never liked features. In my day there was this funny notion that any artiste who featured another artiste was not a strong artiste. That is why Bob Marley never featured anybody”, he added.
He furthered that with his type of music, going solo was the best option to promote this music. “Moreover, the kind of music that I do is different. I do Kuchoko-Reggae music with an African background. Now you can hear Adowa in Reggae. That is what I enjoy doing. I want to do something new and different”, he added.
He, however, noted that if he were to feature an artiste, he would not be featuring to make a hit or ride on the back of ‘hit artiste’ to become popular. He added that his feature will be for the ‘creativity of the song’.
