Ghanaian rapper and songwriter, Chief Osei Bonsu, known in the music circles as ‘Tulenkey’ has disclosed that his stage name was coined by a relative of his during his childhood days.
In an interview with Foster Romanus on the Late Nite Celebrity show ,he revealed that the name was coined from a Ga word which when translated means “to jump about”.
“My uncle gave me the name Tulenkey. I was very stubborn when I was young and I am unable to sit at one place. So it came from the Ga word ‘eetum) ‘ meaning to jump about”.
He expressed his satisfaction with the name by commenting that the name was one that “represents”.
“When I thought of doing professional music, I figured that I had to use a name that represents. So that one day, when I make an appearance at the BET or the Grammys they will know that I come from Africa”, he added.
The ‘Ghetto Boy’ hitmaker humourosly stated that his name means ‘worries’ so he “actually came to disturb”.
