Human and gender right activist, Esther Darko-Mensah, has outlined some effects that rape, whereas known as sexual violence, can have on a child, probably not immediately but as he/she grows.
In an interview with host, Eunice Tornyi on African Women’s Voices, which airs on eTV Ghana at 4pm every Tuesday, she stated that if a person is raped while in their young age, they may grow up to be promiscuous.
“They feel that if they’re keeping their virginity and someone is able to rape them, then what’s the point so when anyone comes along, they just give in”, she explained.
Esther went on to say, “The other thing is, some people can become very frigid and traumatized so they grow and go into relationships or even get married, and whenever their partner gets close, they’re scared”.
According to her, this tends to take a huge toll on the victim until they are probably made to undergo some form of psychological counseling.
Additionally, she noted another effect of rape as early death, since the victim, usually in the case of females, may bleed to death.
