If you suffered to get money to buy the latest version of Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro, even if it fell from your hand inadvertently, you would cringe and want to virtually kill yourself.
However, it is that same phone Kenyan’s Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General deliberately threw away in anger during an interview on live TV.
Francis Atwoli appeared on Citizen TV on Wednesday, October 23 when his phone rang as he was answering a question posed to him by host Jeff Koinange.
Not being happy about the call at that particular moment, Atwoli reached for his iPhone from the inner pocket of his suit, switched it to a silent mode before throwing it away so hard that it made a loud noise when it landed on the floor on the other side of the studio.
Knowing the cost of the latest iPhone and the probability of its screen cracking, host Jeff Koinange cringed but feigned a laugh since they were live on TV.
Although Atwoli’s posturing portrays that he was not bothered about what happened to the expensive phone, most Kenyans were not amused at all.
While some described the incident as a “distasteful show of opulence”, others thought it was a backfired publicity stunt.
