Entrepreneur, governance practitioner and politician, Ernest Kumi has shared with eTV Ghana, some highs and lows of being a man in today’s world.
In an interview with host, Nana Yaw Odame on eTV’s Men’s Lounge, he mentioned his first factor as societal pressure which, when one does not know how to handle, can make or unmake him.
He said, ‘’If you have all that it takes to spend and be able to accommodate your pressures, then you will be comfortable and you can have all the fun you want. If you don’t have it, that becomes an issue and this is where you see people misrepresenting themselves and telling a lot of lies to display who they are not because they can’t handle the pressure from society’’.
Mr. Kumi also mentioned societal demand as another factor that depicts the highs and lows of being a man. There is pressure from family, friends and people around because they presume that your life is a bed of roses especially if you’re a married man.
‘’From our socio-cultural point of view, whether you like it or not, people have a certain expectation of you and it is also expected that once you are born into a family, you will definitely have to exert some of these loads by taking care of the family members. There is also the belief that whatever cost or loss comes in marriage is for the man to carry’’, he observed.
