Budding Ghanaian/Nigerian musician, Honeyboy, has insinuated that having talent without the money to push it as a business, is close to useless here in Ghana.
He was interviewed on the Late Nite Celebrity Show on eTV Ghana where he made this assertion. He confessed that although his whole life revolves around music and he is certain that music is what he wants to do, it is very challenging especially here in Ghana.
“Here, it is very challenging because even if you have the talent and you don’t have the money to push it, it doesn’t really go that far but my team and I are trying our best to get the songs to where we want them to be”, he said.
Honeyboy added that another challenge he faces in music is getting DJs to play his songs on their platforms and this in a way, also has to do with the money.
“You have to pay these people to play your music and if you don’t have the money to pay them, then you’re stuck so what happens is we just keep doing the good work and hope that people get to see us and love our music so that we can grow the fanbase”, he explained.
According to him, everybody, even the big artistes pay people or have paid people before to have them push their stuff because no one blogs for free. Therefore, the music industry as he sees it, is more like a money-driven and ‘who you know’ system.
