It is often believed that surgeries or any physical manipulation of the body when being done, is not painful usually because there is the use of anaesthesia or tranquillizers.
Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, a plastic surgeon at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, has provided clarity on this, confessing that plastic or cosmetic surgeries when being done, do cause a level of pain and discomfort to the patient, however, when done by the right person, are totally safe.
He said, “Pain is subjective and for any surgical procedure whether it is plastic surgery or thoracic surgery or general surgery, once the body is being manipulated in a way, the body will react by showing pain”.
Dr. Opoku Ware shared this information during a phone interview with Mercy Bee on the first episode of eTV Ghana’s Girl Vibes, season 2 while discussing the topic ‘Cosmetic surgery in the life of today’s woman’.
However, he assured that although the pain may last for some days or weeks, it is a manageable discomfort and the appropriate treatments are given for it, hence, it is not or does not become an issue.
“Treatment of pain is part of the whole treatment process so pain shouldn’t be a major issue. If a surgeon is going to inflict a certain injury on you to correct something, then he needs to be able to treat whatever pain comes as a result”, the surgeon concluded.
