Ghanaian musician and songwriter, Martin King Arthur known in showbiz as Kofi Kinaata has revealed his plans of becoming a multi-genre artiste to make more impact as an industry player with a growing fan base.
Kinaata, in an interview on Y97.9FM’s Reggae Republic, with host, Haruna Babaginda indicated that he was noted a as a rapper during his early days in the music industry, but the need for re-adjustments and introduction of other genres arose as he gained ground within the said fraternity.
The ‘Susuka’ hitmaker said that progress in his career has resulted in a wider fan base which goes beyond the borders of Africa therefore, being a mono-genre artiste would not satisfy his fans. “Now, because of the magnitude of my listeners, which cross borders, I cannot stick to one genre of music; When I make a song, I do a little bit of everything and bring it together.”
However, Kofi Kinaata highlighted that the rap genre he is noted for, joins the list of genres he ventures into which includes the Reggae genre. “I still rap; It’s part of it the other genres I am into, a little bit of everything; when I make a song, I will rap where I need to rap; Instead of rapping 24 bars like back then, I would rap just 12 bars.”
