Celebrated Ghanaian musician, Yaw Sarpong has heaped loads of praises on one of the longest-serving members of his ‘Asomafo’ band, Maame Tiwaa and cleared the air on rumours that she can never sing again after being involved in an accident.
A few weeks back the musician and some six (6) other people in his car, including Maame Tiwaa were involved in an accident after their driver attempted to avoid a head-on collision with a vehicle which veered into their lane following an overtaking.
Following the accident, Maame Tiwaa received some injuries in her neck and shoulder areas and this was later rumoured to have affected her singing ability.
Reacting to these rumours in an interview with Happy 98.9FM’s DJ Advicer on the Ayekoo After Drive show, Yaw Sarpong said, “Tiwaa can still sing. She just has some pains now and then but is on medication and doing very well”.
“She can still sing and just needs to rest”, he reiterated.
Yaw Sarpong who has been singing with Maame Tiwaa for over 42 years described her talent as an exceptional one which is unmatched in the country.
“I met Tiwaa in 1978 and we have worked for 42 years. Tiwaa’s talent is different. She has been truly gifted by God and no one can compare to her. Her tone strikes differently and when she sings, it sounds differently”, Yaw Sarpong said.
He indicated that Maame Tiwaa never struggles to sing and does not rely on autotune. “That’s how talented she is”.
