Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee, has advised women who are dealing with abusive partners in marriage to report them to the police as soon as possible.
According to him, under no circumstance must any woman condone domestic violence, therefore, the first thing to do in such a situation is to report the act to both parties’ parents so that they can intervene.Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee said this when speaking with host, Eunice Tornyi on the African Women’s Voices Show which airs on eTV Ghana.
“If there is no improvement from this, the next thing to do is to report the abusive partner to the police so that they can put some restraint on the person.
“No women should accept domestic violence. If it happens once, you’ll probably think the man is too angry. If it happens twice or three times, you can’t accept it for the sake of your health and also for the sake of the man. If you accept it, one day, he will beat you and kill you, and then he becomes a murderer”, she warned.
Dr. Joyce acknowledged that most churches are now taking such issues seriously and there are also certain female organized institutions that are making room for domestically abused wives to move away from their home and go to a shelter where they are provided with her, hence, women in such situations must take advantage of this.
“When the marriage is dealt with, later, you can go home. That is after the man has also gone through counseling. The man needs to be helped to overcome the anger problem that leads to him being violent”, Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee concluded.
