Rising Ghanaian hip-hop/ rap artiste, Jey Luchy, has opined that although Ghanaians have been producing music since decades past, the music industry is still a baby.
During an interview with Foster Romanus on eTV Ghana’s Late Nite Celebrity Show, he said this in reply to what he thinks of the current state of the Ghanaian music industry.
According to the rapper, no Ghanaian artiste can brag or boldly say that they are proud of whatever heights the music industry has attained as at now.
“Our music industry is still a baby. We are still struggling and we are not even where we can be proud of. Nobody can say they are proud of where Ghana’s music industry is now. We are struggling and we want to make it better so it’s still a baby and we need to work harder”, he said.
Questioned further on whether Sarkodie grabbing BETs or Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and the likes making huge international collaborations does not make the local industry one to be proud of, Luchy responded that the music industry is bigger than these artistes, hence we cannot judge based on their feats only.
“If the system is structured right, the moment you have a hit song, you should be financially stable. Having a hit song is not easy because it involves promotions and money so if you push your music where it should be, you should make money”. This, per Jey Luchy’s view, is the only thing that can validate the Ghanaian music industry as a grown and successful one as apparently, that is not the situation now.
