Member of Parliament for Korle-Klottey Constituency, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has thrown down the gauntlet to her female competitor, urging her to bring more than just their gender to the table.
Speaking to e.tv Ghana’s Joel Sanco at the voting grounds, Dr. Zanetor emphasized that being female was not enough to win the seat and that experience and contributions to lawmaking and policies were also important factors.
“The battle of the females as people have put it is not going to take anything away from my course. Ultimately, it is about experience and just being female is not enough anymore. You must bring something to the table because this is not a ceremonial position,”.
“As a member of parliament, you have to be understanding, contribute to lawmaking and policies, budgetary in the side and a whole lot goes into it so it’s not about being a female. If it was just about that, then I have no business winning in the first place,”.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings, who was the first female to win the seat in Klortey Korle, also noted that her victory was not based on her gender but on the work she had put in.
“Because as the first female to win the seat in Klottey Korle says something about people not expecting your gender but the work you can put in place,”.
Voting is still taking place in numerous constituencies nationwide as the NDC Primaris gets underway today.
Ahead of the general elections in 2024, the party is electing its parliamentary candidates and flagbearer.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings noticed that there was a good vibe in Korle Klottey and expressed her hope that voting and counting would be completed before dusk. She is contested by two other aspirants, Madam Meredith Naakai Lamptey-Addy, daughter of Mr David Lamptey, a former MP of the same constituency and Nii John Coleman, also an astute politician.
