Netherlands youth defender Timothy Fosu Mensah says he has a strong bond with Ghana amid speculations of a possible switch of international allegiance.
Born to Ghanaian parents in Amsterdam, and having represented the Dutch at various youth stages, the Manchester United player is currently a subject of a tussle between the two nations.
Ghana Football Association has made the 19-year-old a top target in their pursuit of foreign-born players, having already confirmed making a first unsuccessful attempt to lure the former Ajax man away.
“Both my parents are from Ghana. My bothers are from Ghana,” Fosu-Mensah told KweseESPN.
“And where I am from in Amsterdam, a lot of Ghanaians are there so the connection is really strong. So my connection is very good.”
The youngster then talks about the Red Devils’ chances of winning the Premier League this campaign as well as his personal ambitions.
“Definitely we are good enough to compete for the title this season. We have a very strong squad,” Fosu-Mensah said.
“I am just focused on developing my game and to become a better player so I can help my team.”
The versatile defender joined United in 2014 after impressing for Dutch side Ajax at the AEGON Future Cup.
He made his first team debut in a 3-2 defeat of Arsenal in February last year.
