Director for Creative Arts at the National Commission on Culture (NCC), Socrate Safo, has reacted to concerns of Ghanaian producers on the influx of foreign content on the Ghanaian market.
According to him, in as much as foreign content is flooding the local market, Ghanaian content is also flooding the foreign market.
Addressing concerns Ghanaian content is unable to travel as much as foreign content and how it has taken over the local scene, he said, “are they aware there is Ghanaian content outside the country as well? There is Ghanaian content on foreign channels and anyone who says otherwise is ignorant.”
He shared how a news article making rounds saw a Namibian parliamentarian complaining about the volume of Ghanaian content being shown on Namibian channels.
The filmmaker admitted in as much as some of these Ghanaian contents find their way overseas through piracy, some are also sent there by Ghanaian film makers.
In a special made in Ghana discussion on the topic; ‘The Proliferation of Foreign Content on Television and its Impact on the Ghanaian Culture’, with Fati Shaibu Ali, he added, “so if we sit here and complain about the other content that has come in, then let’s also know that ours also goes out there. Some years back, I received a letter from Kazakhstan asking for Ghanaian content to be shown on their stations.”
