With the annual rows of controversy hitting the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), this year’s started on an early note.
Many music lovers and critics have critcized the nomination of Lord Paper under the best new artiste of the year category claiming, the ‘asa bone’ hitmaker has been around for a while to be placed in that bracket.
But the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the VGMA board, Francis Doku has said otherwise.

In an interview in Happy98.9FM’s Ayekoo After Drive, Francis mentioned that Lord Paper fits perfectly in that category.
He said, “per the VGMA’s definition of new artiste, Lord Paper is a new artiste.” He furthered that, music lovers and Ghanaians should understand that the selection process for the VGMA’s is guided and not done on the whims and caprices of the board.
Lord Paper who has been around for a while now obviously broke through in the Ghanaian music scene in 2016 with his hit single, ‘Awurama’.
In Lord’s own words, ” I broke through in 2016 but I feel they’ve placed me in that category because they’re are now recognizing my work in the industry. Me, dem no nominate me before. I thought they’ll never nominate me. Now they’ve given me a chance to be in there which I appreciate a lot. But I believe the award belong to the guys in there. They broke through last year but me dier..”
He said this when he was nominated for the breakthrough act of the year in the 3Music awards in January this year.
Let’s see if his feelings remain the same for the VGMA’s.
Lord Paper was nominated for the Best New Artiste of the Year together with J Derobie,
Kofi Mole, Fameye, Tulenkey and MOG Music.
