I don’t make music for the awards – King Promise

Renowned Ghanaian afrobeats and highlife singer/songwriter, King Promise, says his motivation for doing music has never been the awards or the applauses.

In an interview with Winston Micheals and Naa Dzama on Y107.9FM’s midday show, ‘Shouts on Y’, he said, “The most important thing for me has always been to put music out, make the fans happy and satisfy them. The icing on the cake is when these acknowledgements do happen but I don’t think it’s the main reason why I make music”.

“I don’t release songs or an album mainly to win artiste of the year or something. I do it to let it go crazy. Like I keep saying, when I release my first album ‘As Promised’, it was just the fact that we took our time to make great music. I had been in the industry for about two years then so I thought we should give them a project because I’m kind of a project guy and we did that”, he added.

According to King Promise, topping album charts, becoming the most streamed Ghanaian artiste of all time and getting over a hundred million streams with his ‘As Promised’ album was not planned. Although he was excited to receive all that, it was not and has never been the motivation behind his craft.

“When the awards come, I’m not going to lie, I’m thankful, and even for the nominations but that is not why I do music”, he further concluded.
