Upcoming dancehall musician, El Niño, has observed that dancehall is not as vibrant in Ghana because Ghanaians do not like dancehall music.
Speaking with Foster Romanus in an interview on the Late Nite Celebrity Show, he opined that these days, Ghanaians only want to dance, hence they prefer danceable types of music than the typical dancehall music.
“When you do real dancehall in Ghana, it’s difficult for you to hit. Sometimes, when you’re speaking the Jamaican patua in dancehall songs, people pass comments like what is this guy doing? Ghanaians do not like dancehall”, he said.
Per E.L. Nino’s intuition, dancehall music is not vibrant because Ghanaians do not like the genre and this is also due to the fact that they do not understand the Jamaican patua which seems to be the main style of the genre.
Late Nite Celebrity Show is an entertainment programme that hosts celebrities from all aspects of the entertainment industry and gives the platform for upcoming talents to showcase their art. The show, hosted by Foster Romanus, airs on eTV Ghana every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10pm.
