Ghana’s First Female Stand Up comedian Heiress Jacinta has stated that Ghanaian comedians are not united.
Responding to a question asked by Foster Romanus on The Late Nite Celebrity Show the Ghanaian and Nigerian born act said comedians in Ghana were more united before than they are now.
Explaining her statement she said “I think some people within the comedy showbiz have gotten to a certain level where they feel that they have some recognition hence they are trying to find their feet doing their own thing.
“When some certain individuals were not as famous as they are now there was a lot more togetherness” she added.
Even though Jacinta does not think it is a bad thing for Ghanaian Comedians to try and find their own feet and try to come out with unique content and acts, she is afraid that the direction the industry is going might affect the building and growth of the Ghanaian Comedy industry.
“I am not saying it is a bad thing, it is good that everyone finds his/her feet and trying to do something and they own stuff.
“It is good but I hope it does not go against building the Comedy industry as a whole.
“We always compare ourselves to Nigerians, if they did what is currently happening in Ghana I don’t think they would have gotten to where they are now.
