The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has revealed that, the government of Ghana is going to contribute an amount of $2million to support the develop Africa agenda.

Speaking at a press conference at the Innovation Africa Summit 2019 held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel earlier today, the Minister said that, “The African Union through the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and African Development Bank is operationalizing the African Education Fund to facilitate the skills needed for our industrialization. Ghana has pledged UD$2 million to the African Education Fund.”

The Minister of Education called on the various Governments in the African continent to contribute their quota towards the funding of the African Education Fund. “We cannot however make any progress without an agenda that has skills development at its core and is financed by us as Africans. We all need to mobilize resources to support this endeavour”, he said.

According to the Minister, supporting the fund shows a commitment to Africa’s own industrial and economic transformation without being initiated or funded by a third party.

The African Education Fund (AEF) is a proposal by the African Development Bank, the Association for the Development of Education in Africa, and the African Union for a unique, Africa-initiated, continental education fund designed, owned, led and managed by Africans to support tertiary, technology, technical and science education in Africa. When operational, the AEF will make available $300 million to finance and scale up to $1 billion over 10 years to technical vocational education and training, science technology, engineering and mathematics in Africa.
